Underground Rap Scene:

Before we start, I want to thank you for doing the interview.

Roccett:

Thanks for having me.

Underground Rap Scene:

First of all, what is it like coming up in California and trying to make it in the Rap game? Could you touch on the advantages and disadvantages of trying to make it in the West Coast’s rap scene? Also, what’s your favorite part about being from the West Coast?

Roccett:

Cali is real life, a real street life, these streets are not a joke… You can get caught up out here. The advantage of being from out here is the entire world respects West Coast music and West Coast’s history in the music game. The disadvantages are there isnt any unity or support out here. The artists that are on aren’t trying to help or assist other artists.

Underground Rap Scene:

Could you explain your journey in the rap game to this point, and how you got involved with Green Up Ent and Corporate Thugz Entertainment?

Roccett:

I have been doing music for a few years. It is something I started taking serious a little more than a year ago. People would always tell me that I was nice when they heard me spit and my peoples would always tell me I should really do this…. Green Up is the crew, it’s a business that I have ownership in… CTE is Jeezy’s label, I was around Jeezy for some time as a homey and he didn’t even know I rapped. He first heard me after one of his shows in LA and we worked out the situation with CTE soon after that….

Underground Rap Scene:

I know you’ve been working with some big names in the rap game, such as Spider Loc, Killer Mike, Knocturnal, and Young Jeezy. Could you share some of your experiences working with these artists?

Roccett:

I respect each of the others named and I have an association beyond music with the artists. Knocturnal helped me develop and understand song structure and other ways to make my music better. I appreciate that.
With any artists I collab with, we vibe and knock out the music.

Underground Rap Scene:

Could you name a DJ or artist who greatly helped you out on your way to the top of the rap game, if any, and explain how they helped you?

Roccett:

My manager Rick Edwards has helped me greatly. He executes my vision and works hard too constantly take my career to another level.
Damizza, DJ Vlad, DJ Warrior, Dow Jones, and any and every other DJ that plays my music or put me on a mixtape has helped me… I appreciate them all…

Underground Rap Scene:

What did getting involved with CTE do for you as far as opening doors in the industry?

Roccett:

CTE is a co sign. This industry and the people in it at times need for someone or something else to make them believe. I am and always have been official in the streets and thats how I generated my buzz. The industry and all else will fall into place, but the streets never lie.

Underground Rap Scene:

Focusing on CTE for a minute, what do you feel you bring to the table in CTE, with you being from the west coast? Also what is it like working with Young Jeezy, and has he taught you anything that you feel has changed the way you view the rap game?

Roccett:

I bring realness to the table. I have a strong presence and movement on the West Coast. Jeezy has taught me that you have to go out and get everything yourself in this game. This game is every man for himself…

Underground Rap Scene:

Coming back to your grind, what are you currently working on, and when you aren’t busy in the studio how are you spending your time?

Roccett:

I am working on a few street albums, one with DJ WARRIOR, one
with DOW JONES. I am filming and working on my DVD, doing shows, and
beyond that constantly making music.
Outside of the studio I keep it low key.. I have recently started reading scripts and getting into the art of acting..

Underground Rap Scene:

Who would you say is your biggest influence?

Roccett:

Tupac

Underground Rap Scene:

Who are you listening to when you aren’t playing your own tracks?

Roccett:

Tupac, Jeezy, Biggie, Snoop, I listen to all types of artists…

Underground Rap Scene:

When do you expect to release your next album or mixtape, and what is your favorite track that you’ve recorded for the album or mixtape so far?

Roccett:

I am releasing “COLORS”, Hosted by DJ Warrior in the next few weeks. My favorite tracks from this project would have too be “Grindin”, “Ride Wit A G”, and “All In Da Streets”.
Checc out myspace.com/roccett and www.roccett.com to pick up my new projects.

Underground Rap Scene:

Could you touch on what you’ve learned from going on tour to promote your music and performing with other up-and-coming, as well as established artists?

Roccett:

You have to network and try and build a fan base in ever city, town, state, country that you go too.. Ever show is important…

Underground Rap Scene:

Finally, do you have any words to share with up and coming artists who are looking to get their names heard?

Roccett:

Go hard, you gonna get back what you put in!!!!
Thank you for your time and support….
