Soulja Boy

Soulja Boy is steadily making his way to the top of the underground rap scene in the south, and he is about to let the world know what being super fresh is all about. Underground Rap Scene caught up with Soulja Boy to speak about his hustle:

Underground Rap Scene:

Before we start, I want to thank you for doing the interview and let you know that I am extremely impressed by your ability to promote yourself over the internet. Any independent artist who wants to get their music heard should follow in your footsteps if they plan on succeeding.

Underground Rap Scene:

First of all, could you touch on what you were doing before you started rapping, and how you decided to pursue a career in the rap game?

Soulja Boy:

Well before I was rapping. I was just a regular kid in school. I just liked to chill my friends and play games and stuff like that. One day at school my friends were freestyling at the lunch table and thats where it all started.

Underground Rap Scene:

Now like I said earlier, I know you’re tearing up the internet with your myspace page, your website, and your many youtube videos. In your opinion, how has the internet helped you get your music heard and what have you learned from using the internet to promote yourself?

Soulja Boy:

The Internet had been a BIG help with my career. My advice to musicians Internet is the key. It gets your music heard all across the world.

Underground Rap Scene:

What is it like coming up in Mississippi and trying to make it big in the Rap Game? Could you touch on the advantages and disadvantages of trying to make a name for yourself in Mississippi? Also, what’s your favorite part about being from Mississippi?

Soulja Boy:

Well really I came up in Atlanta, GA. Im from Atlanta, GA. I just reside in Mississippi for the moment. But at first it was kind of hard in the streets. So I got on the internet. That help get my name out. Then some promoters from my hometown heard me on the net and thats how I got the streets to listen. But down in Mississippi it's cool. I do alot of shows around here. But im originally from ATL. Ive moved back and forth alot.

Underground Rap Scene:

Could you explain to us how you connected with M.I.A.M.I. (Money Isn’t A Major Issue) Mike, Stacks On Deck Ent, and Palm Tree Management. Could you also touch on what these connections have done for you so far?

Soulja Boy:

Well I started the company Stacks On Deck Ent by myself. Once I did that Miami Mike heard of me from the internet and from me doing little shows in Mississippi. We hooked up and now we are a dynamic duo. Miami Mike has helped me out alot in the streets thats where I was lacking. Plus I got shows lined up from here to May 2007. Even Out Of Country and thats wuz up!

Underground Rap Scene:

I know you recently released your album, Stacks On Deck. Could you share some of your experiences working on the Stacks On Deck album, and let us know which track is your personal favorite?

Soulja Boy:

Working on the album wuz fun. It's what I like to do. I like to make hits and crunk songs for the club/party scene. Thats what I do. But My favorite song has to be "I Got Me Some BAPES". Because I took a big chance making that track. Alot of folks where I'm from dont even know what they are. They all rock Jordans and Air Force Ones. I wanted to put the shoe on da map Becuz to me they "SUPER FRESH". And daz wuz hannan.

Underground Rap Scene:

In addition to making your presence felt in a major way on the internet, I know you have been traveling around the country promoting your album. What have you learned while on the road doing shows in different cities, and what was it like performing with UNK?

Soulja Boy:

Well different cities Like different songs. Different crowds do different dances. But so far everyone shows me love. Traveling around is what I Like to Do. Me And my boy Arab we live on the road. Doing shows is what I love to do. I put my heart and soul on the track and I Love the response I get. Performing wit UNK? Mane daz a dream come true. He's one of my favorite artist and Inspirations. So when they said Soulja Boy you got a show wit UNK man. Im like Walk It Out UNK? LETS GO!

Underground Rap Scene:

What are you currently working on, and when you aren’t busy in the studio how are you spending your time?

Soulja Boy:

Right now i'm working on the re-release of Stacks On Deck the "BIG" Album. I got alot of singles. But when it's time to do my "BIG,BIG" Album. I'm telling you I'm going to murk da game real talk. But when I'm not in the studio making hits. I'm at da mall getting super fresh or chillin wit my boy Arab on dat Madden.

Underground Rap Scene:

Who would you say is your biggest influence?

Soulja Boy:

I would say 50 Cent. I might not rap like him. But this man has Movies, Video Games, 11x Platinum Albums, Clothes, Shoes, Drinks.. I could go on all day. That is my biggest Inspiration. I just keep it in my mind. If he can do it. I can too.

Underground Rap Scene:

Who are you listening to when you aren’t playing your own tracks?

Soulja Boy:

I bump dat Lil Boosie all day. And I play dat UNK Beatin down yo block. And I stay bumpin dat Young Jeezy all da time.

Underground Rap Scene:

Finally, what are you trying to accomplish through your music? And what do you feel you have to offer to the rap game that no one else has?

Soulja Boy:

I'm trying to prove everybody wrong whoever told me I couldn't make it. To all the haters who say I can't rap and I will never make it. I'm going to show them. And plus I make music for the crowd to dance and get crunk too. I make my tracks from the heart. And I think I'm bringing that new "SUPER FRESH" style to the game that don't nobody got yet. I see they snappin and dancing. But I got that "SUPER FRESH" style to top it off. So I'm coming just watch me!

Underground Rap Scene:

Thank you for your time.
